Tanna Island, located south of the Vanuatu capital, Port Vila and is a wonderful place to visit with many things to see and do. It is home to Mount Yasur, an active volcano that is a big tourist attraction. Mount Yasur is on the southeast coast and only an hours drive from Tanna’s airport. Other attractions to visit are the waterfalls, underwater caves and snorkeling in beautiful coral reefs. Relaxing on the beaches is also a great way to spend some time on Tanna Island.
The ancient culture has remained and is influenced little by western ways of life. When visiting Tanna you will be able to experience this traditional culture by taking a day tour to a local village. You will also be able to experience some of the island’s ceremonies such as the Nekowiar or Toka ceremony. This is a festival that lasts for three days with food, gifts and contests.

Getting to Tanna Island by plane takes about 35 minutes from Port Vila on Air Vanuatu. You can book flights and get schedule information on their website. The island has many accommodations for you to choose from. Most of them will be able to organize tours and transfers for your convenience.
