Port Vila is known to be home to many bluewater speedsters, including enormous trevally, dogtooth tuna, sailfish, wahoo, and yellowfin tuna. In Pango, less than a kilometer from Vila harbor, you can find lures and bridle-rigged tuna. Port Vila is a surefire starting destination, but sometimes it can be overfished, making it necessary to go to more remote locations to find better areas to fish. The Remote and Plentiful Northern Islands These more remote islands are known for their remote Vanuatu fishing offerings. The island of Espiritu Santo on the northern side of Vanuatu and Wusi on the west coast are both legendary game-fishing areas, and both of these spots remain relatively unfished because of their remote location. The islands offer unparalleled views of jungle-covered mountain peaks, waterfalls, and white sand beaches, and the spots offer even better fishing with Blue Marlin over 1100 lbs. and 80kg dogtooth tuna!

The unique coastlines of canyons and mountains around this area attract schools of small rainbow runner and Watson’s bonito fish, which brings large predator fish like wahoo, dolphinfish, yellowfin tuna, blue marlin, and even sharks. Along the ledges and drop-offs, dogtooth tuna can be found lying in wait for baitfish.

Bokissa Island, a few kilometers south of Espiritu Santo, is an ideal base camp for a day at the Northern Islands, as the run to Wusi can take about six hours. For a shorter trip, try the Pasco Banks, about one hour southwest of Bokissa Island. This area attracts large packs of baitfish, mainly made up of rainbow runners. These rainbow runner bring many predators to the waters. Dogtooth tuna and wahoo can be found in abundance, but marlin, yellowfin tuna, and salfish also abound here.
